User Manuals

When I worked as a systems admin & desktop support I regularly created handouts for my users. One office I worked at had a group of people who would attach pdf files to an email by:

  • Printing the document at the multifunction printer
  • Scanned the document at the multifunction printer
  • Used the multifunction printer to send that scanned document as a pdf to themselves
  • Forward the email from the printer to whoever it needed to go to

I was the office hero when I sent out the guide showing how to do the same thing in less steps without going to the printer and wasting all that paper.

I had the idea for a client handbook a few months ago so they have something they can hold in their hands and can be easier to refer to without having to go to the computer.

Currently a similar version is sent to clients in their confirmation email as the “on-boarding guide”. This is what it has morphed into. It is just a draft of what will be the print copy and will be adding some pictures and removing hyperlinks. After this I’ll tackle rebuilding the on-boarding guide to match this.

I created this using Google Docs but there is also a .docx copy for those that use Microsoft Office.

The cover is an image made in Canva as Google docs doesn’t have that sort of functionality. This is how I stretched it out: https://qr.ae/pGSd7i

If something in here inspires you, feel free to use it in your own client on-boarding & intro guides.
